📖 Overview

Antony Flew was a British philosopher who spent most of his career as an atheist before converting to deism late in life. He taught at universities including Oxford, Aberdeen, Keele, and Reading, establishing himself as a prominent voice in analytical philosophy and the philosophy of religion. Flew gained recognition for his 1950 paper "Theology and Falsification," which challenged religious believers to specify what evidence would falsify their beliefs. This work became influential in debates about the meaningfulness of religious language. He wrote numerous books defending atheism and critiquing religious arguments throughout the latter half of the 20th century. In 2004, at age 81, Flew announced his conversion from atheism to deism, citing developments in science and philosophy. This shift generated significant controversy and debate within philosophical and religious communities. His 2007 book "There Is a God" detailed his intellectual journey from atheism to belief in a divine creator. The book sparked discussions about his mental state and the extent of his co-author's involvement in its writing.
