📖 Overview
Brian Herbert (b. 1947) is an American science fiction author best known for continuing the acclaimed Dune series created by his father, Frank Herbert. As the keeper of the Dune legacy, he has significantly expanded the universe through numerous bestselling novels co-written with Kevin J. Anderson.
Before focusing on the Dune series, Herbert authored several original science fiction works including Sidney's Comet, Prisoners of Arionn, and Man of Two Worlds - the latter co-written with his father Frank Herbert. He also wrote a comprehensive biography of his father titled Dreamer of Dune: The Biography of Frank Herbert, published in 2003.
His most significant work began in 1999 with the Prelude to Dune trilogy, followed by Legends of Dune and multiple other series set in the Dune universe. Working with co-author Kevin J. Anderson, Herbert has written over a dozen New York Times bestselling novels that expand on his father's original vision, including both prequels and sequels to the original Dune series.
Herbert continues to actively write and develop new stories in the Dune universe while also maintaining his father's literary legacy through various projects including comic book adaptations and companion works. He has compiled extensive notes and references about the Dune universe, though these remain largely unpublished.
