Victor Woodward Milán (1954-2018) was an American author who wrote nearly 100 novels across multiple genres, with a particular focus on libertarian science fiction and cybernetics. His work earned him the Prometheus Award in 1986 for his novel "Cybernetic Samurai."
Throughout his career, Milán contributed extensively to several shared universe series including Forgotten Realms, Star Trek, BattleTech, and Wild Cards. He wrote under various pseudonyms including Richard Austin, Robert Baron, and S. L. Hunter, as well as the house name James Axler for the "Deathlands" and "Outlanders" series.
Outside of writing, Milán was recognized as the regular masquerade emcee at Archon, the annual multi-genre convention in Collinsville, Illinois. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he spent his later years in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he passed away in 2018 after battling cancer.
