📖 Overview
Nikki Haley served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations from 2017 to 2018 and as Governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017. Born Nimrata Randhawa to Indian immigrant parents, she became the first female governor of South Carolina and the first Indian-American to serve in a presidential cabinet.
Before entering politics, Haley worked in her family's clothing business and served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011. Her political career gained national attention when she successfully led efforts to remove the Confederate flag from the South Carolina State Capitol grounds following the 2015 Charleston church shooting.
As UN Ambassador, Haley advocated for human rights and supported sanctions against North Korea. She has authored two books: "Can't Is Not an Option: My American Story" (2012) and "With All Due Respect: Defending America with Grit and Grace" (2019).
Haley launched a campaign for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, becoming one of the first major challengers to former President Donald Trump. Her political positions generally align with conservative principles, particularly on fiscal policy and international relations.
