Kate Constable is an Australian fantasy and contemporary fiction author known for her young adult novels, particularly the Chanters of Tremaris trilogy. Born in 1966 in Sandringham, Melbourne, she spent part of her childhood in Papua New Guinea before returning to Australia.
After completing degrees in Arts and Law at Melbourne University, Constable worked at Warner Music for thirteen years while developing her writing career. Her literary debut came in 1993 with the short story "Graham Remains" published in Meanjin magazine.
The Singer of All Songs, published in the early 2000s, marked Constable's breakthrough as a novelist and became the first installment of her successful Chanters of Tremaris trilogy. The series was followed by The Waterless Sea and The Tenth Power.
Her work focuses primarily on fantasy and young adult themes, blending magical elements with coming-of-age narratives. Professional recognition came early in her career when she won second prize in the HQ short story competition in 1996.
