Sylvia Louise Engdahl, born in 1933, is an American science fiction author best known for her young adult novels. Her breakthrough work "Enchantress from the Stars" (1970) earned a Newbery Honor, was a Geffen Award finalist, and received the Phoenix Award in 1990.
Between 1970 and 1981, Engdahl published eleven books through Atheneum Books, including science fiction novels, anthologies, and nonfiction works. She later transitioned to teaching graduate courses in online education from 1985 to 1995, establishing herself as an early pioneer in digital learning.
