📖 Overview
Mike Berenstain is an American children's book author and illustrator best known for continuing the beloved Berenstain Bears series created by his parents, Stan and Jan Berenstain. Born in 1951 in Philadelphia, he formally joined the family enterprise in 1995 as illustrator of the Bear Scouts subseries.
Before taking over the Berenstain Bears franchise, he established himself independently in children's publishing by illustrating K'tonton books and creating educational picture books about castles, ships, and lighthouses. He also developed a significant body of work focused on dinosaurs, writing and illustrating the "I Love Dinosaurs" series along with other paleontology-themed books.
Following the passing of his father Stan in 2005 and mother Jan in 2012, Mike Berenstain became the primary steward of the Berenstain Bears series. He continues to write and illustrate new adventures for the bear family, maintaining the educational and moral foundations established by his parents while adapting the stories for contemporary audiences.
Mike Berenstain's formal art training at the Philadelphia College of Art and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts helped prepare him for his eventual role in carrying forward one of the most successful children's book series in publishing history.
