Perry Moore (1971-2011) was an American writer, film producer, and director known for his work in both literature and film. His most notable literary work was the young adult novel "Hero," which won the Lambda Literary Award for LGBT Children's/Young Adult literature in 2007.
Moore served as executive producer for "The Chronicles of Narnia" film series, overseeing the production of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" (2005), "Prince Caspian" (2008), and "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" (2010). He also wrote and directed the independent film "Lake City" (2008) starring Sissy Spacek.
Prior to his death, Moore was developing several projects including a television show based on his novel "Hero" and was working on additional young adult manuscripts. His novel "Hero" was particularly significant for featuring one of the first gay teenage superheroes in mainstream young adult literature.
Throughout his career, Moore worked to increase LGBT representation in both literature and film, often speaking about the importance of positive portrayals of gay characters in media aimed at young people. He passed away in New York City at the age of 39.
