📖 Overview
Thupten Jinpa is a Tibetan-born scholar and former Buddhist monk who has served as the principal English translator for the Dalai Lama since 1985. He completed his geshe degree (the Tibetan Buddhist equivalent of a doctorate) from Ganden Monastic University and later earned a Ph.D. in religious studies from Cambridge University.
As a scholar and author, Jinpa has written several books exploring Buddhism, compassion, and mindfulness, including "A Fearless Heart" and "Essential Mind Training." Beyond his academic work, Jinpa has translated and edited numerous books by the Dalai Lama and other Buddhist teachers. His translations have helped make Tibetan Buddhist teachings more accessible to Western audiences, while his own writings bridge traditional Buddhist concepts with contemporary scientific understanding.
Jinpa's contributions to cross-cultural understanding and the study of compassion have earned him recognition in both academic and Buddhist circles. He serves as an adjunct professor at McGill University and is the Chair of Mind and Life Institute, an organization dedicated to fostering dialogue between Buddhist thought and Western science.
