King of Ithaka

📖 Overview

Telemachos has lived his whole life on the Greek island of Ithaka with his mother, who refuses to marry any of her aggressive suitors until her son comes of age. On his sixteenth birthday, Telemachos learns he must undertake a journey to find his father Odysseus, who vanished after the Trojan War. With only cryptic instructions from an oracle and accompanied by two friends, Telemachos sets sail across dangerous waters in search of his missing father. His quest takes him to unfamiliar lands where he faces challenges that test his courage, loyalty, and understanding of what it means to be a leader. The novel reimagines Homer's Odyssey from the perspective of Odysseus' son, exploring themes of growing up, family duty, and the complex nature of heroism. Through Telemachos' journey toward manhood, Barrett examines how children must ultimately find their own path while reconciling the legends of their parents with reality.
