📖 Overview
Aadujeevitham follows the story of Najeeb, a Keralite man who leaves his pregnant wife behind in India to work in Saudi Arabia. Upon arrival, he finds himself trapped in modern-day slavery, forced to work as a goatherd in the middle of the desert.
The narrative chronicles Najeeb's daily existence in extreme isolation, where his only companions are hundreds of goats and his cruel employer. His days consist of herding, feeding, and milking the goats while enduring harsh desert conditions and complete disconnection from the outside world.
The book is based on true events, translated from Malayalam to English by Joseph Koyippally. Written in a spare, direct style, it presents an unvarnished account of Gulf migration and the hidden realities faced by many Indian laborers abroad.
Through Najeeb's experience, the novel explores themes of survival, isolation, and the preservation of human dignity in dehumanizing circumstances. It stands as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and raises questions about modern labor exploitation in the Middle East.
