📖 Overview
Akata Witch follows Sunny Nwazue, a 12-year-old Nigerian-American girl living in Aba, Nigeria. Born with albinism, she navigates life between two worlds - her American birthplace and her Nigerian home, while dealing with physical limitations that keep her from fully enjoying her passion for soccer.
Sunny's life transforms when she discovers she belongs to the Leopard People, a hidden community of those born with magical abilities. She joins three other young practitioners - Orlu, Chichi, and Sasha - to learn the ways of juju magic while facing the threat of a dangerous criminal who uses dark powers.
The novel fuses West African folklore and mysticism with contemporary Nigerian life, creating a unique magical system based on learning and personal growth. At its core, this coming-of-age story explores themes of identity, belonging, and the power of embracing one's true nature despite societal constraints.
