📖 Overview
A young woman from a small village is unexpectedly chosen to serve the mysterious Dragon, a powerful wizard who protects the valley from an evil, sentient forest known as the Wood. The Dragon selects one girl every decade as payment for his protection, and this time he chooses the seemingly ordinary Agnieszka over her more accomplished friend.
At the Dragon's tower, Agnieszka discovers she possesses magical abilities. The Dragon begins training her in spellcraft, though her unconventional approach to magic often clashes with his rigid methods. As threats from the Wood escalate, she must learn to harness her powers while navigating political intrigue and ancient dangers.
The story draws heavily from Polish folklore and fairy tale traditions, spinning them into a fresh narrative about magic, power, and corruption. Set in a kingdom called Polnya, the novel creates a world where dark forces lurk at the edges of civilization, and ancient magic holds both promise and peril.
Beyond its fantasy elements, Uprooted explores themes of female agency, the tension between tradition and innovation, and humanity's complex relationship with nature. The novel examines how people face corruption and evil while maintaining their own humanity.
