📖 Overview
Lincoln Rhyme, a quadriplegic forensics expert and former NYPD criminalist, faces his nemesis - a professional assassin known as the Coffin Dancer. The killer, identified by a distinctive tattoo of the Grim Reaper dancing with a woman, has been hired to eliminate three witnesses before they can testify to a grand jury.
Working with NYPD detective Amelia Sachs, who acts as his eyes and legs at crime scenes, Rhyme must prevent the Coffin Dancer from completing his mission. The investigation becomes personal for Rhyme, as the assassin previously killed two of his former colleagues five years ago.
In a race against time, Rhyme and Sachs analyze forensic evidence and attempt to anticipate the killer's next moves. Their pursuit leads them through multiple crime scenes across New York City as they try to protect the remaining witnesses.
The novel explores themes of adaptation and persistence, demonstrating how physical limitations can be overcome through intelligence and determination. It also examines the complex relationship between hunter and prey, where the lines between pursuer and pursued become increasingly blurred.
