📖 Overview
In Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day, ghost Jenna has haunted New York City since her death in 1972. As with all ghosts, she remains on Earth because she died before her natural time, and she can manipulate time by taking it from the living or giving it back.
Jenna works at a suicide prevention hotline, using her abilities to help others while slowly earning her way to her destined death date. When ghosts begin vanishing from New York, she partners with a corn witch named Brenda to investigate the disappearances.
The investigation leads Jenna back to her Kentucky hometown, where she confronts both supernatural forces and the painful circumstances of her own death. Her quest becomes a race to save the missing ghosts while coming to terms with her past.
The novella explores themes of grief, redemption, and the price of second chances in a world where time itself becomes currency. Through Jenna's story, McGuire examines how the choices we make after tragedy can shape not only our fate but the lives of others.
