📖 Overview
A Nightmare on Elm Street: Suffer the Children follows six troubled teenagers in Springwood, Ohio who participate in an experimental drug trial at the Katja Institute. The story centers on Alexandra Corwin, who moves into 1428 Elm Street - the former home of supernatural killer Freddy Krueger.
The teens each carry personal burdens: self-harm, parental abuse, addiction, and intense family pressure. When they agree to test an anti-insomnia medication, their decision leads them into Freddy's domain, where he gains a new kind of power over their lives.
The novel expands on the established Nightmare on Elm Street mythology while exploring themes of teenage trauma, family dysfunction, and the price of survival. This 2005 horror novel serves as the first installment in Black Flame's series of five Elm Street books.

🤔 Interesting facts
🔪 The novel was published in 1995 as part of a series of standalone books expanding the Nightmare on Elm Street universe beyond the films.
🏥 Author David Bishop drew inspiration from real-life pharmaceutical trials and their sometimes-controversial testing on teenagers in the 1990s.
👻 This was one of the first Nightmare on Elm Street stories to focus heavily on the medical/pharmaceutical angle, predating similar themes in later franchise entries.
🎭 Unlike many entries in the series, this book dedicates significant page count to developing the teenagers' personal lives and struggles before Freddy's appearances.
📚 David Bishop is also known for writing several Doctor Who novels and comics, bringing his sci-fi/horror expertise to both franchises.
