📖 Overview
The Scorpio Races takes place on the island of Thisby, where deadly water horses emerge from the sea each autumn. These carnivorous creatures, called capaill uisce, are caught and trained by riders who compete in a dangerous beach race each November.
Sean Kendrick is the returning champion of the Scorpio Races, with a deep connection to the water horses and years of experience handling them. Puck Connolly becomes the first girl to enter the races, mounting her regular land horse against the capaill uisce in a bid to save her family home.
As race day approaches, both Sean and Puck must navigate the increasing tensions on the island while preparing for a competition that could claim their lives. Their individual quests for survival and victory become intertwined as November draws near.
The novel explores themes of tradition versus change, the relationship between humans and nature, and the price of holding onto the things we love. The harsh island setting serves as both backdrop and character, shaping the lives of those who choose to stay despite its dangers.
