📖 Overview
Nina Harrison became a vampire in 1973, and now she spends her nights attending a support group with other reformed vampires in Sydney, Australia. The group meets weekly in a Catholic church basement, led by a priest who helps them maintain their commitment to never harm humans.
When one of their members is found dead, Nina and her fellow vampires must venture out into the world to investigate. Their quest leads them into dangerous territory as they uncover threats to their community while dealing with their limitations as vampires who refuse to feed on humans.
The vampires in this book bear little resemblance to the powerful, glamorous creatures of traditional vampire fiction. They are sickly, suffer from chronic fatigue, and sustain themselves on guinea pig blood while trying to live ethical lives.
This young adult novel subverts vampire mythology while exploring themes of addiction, morality, and the challenge of maintaining principles in the face of temptation. The story balances darker elements with humor and raises questions about what it means to choose a difficult but ethical path.
