📖 Overview
Marina and her six siblings are taken to Mount Weeupcut by their mother, while their father stays behind. They join a religious group called The Believers, who claim the world will end on July 27, 2000.
Jed arrives at the same compound with his father, leaving his sister behind. The group's leader, Reverend Beelson, has declared that only 144 chosen people will survive God's judgment by staying on the mountaintop.
Marina and Jed form a connection at the compound while their parents focus on preparing for the proclaimed end of days. Outside the gates, a growing crowd of excluded believers and concerned family members gather as police monitor the situation.
The novel examines faith, doubt, and the complex relationship between parents and children during times of extreme religious conviction. Its dual narration presents two perspectives on belief and belonging.
