📖 Overview
Nine young aliens and their guardians fled to Earth when their home planet Lorien was attacked by hostile forces. They live in hiding, developing supernatural abilities called Legacies while being hunted by their enemies. Number Four, who goes by John Smith, must stay alive as the aliens can only be killed in numerical order - and Numbers One through Three are already dead.
John attempts to build a normal teenage life in Paradise, Ohio, going to high school and making friends. His guardian Henri trains him to control his emerging powers while staying vigilant against threats. The peaceful facade of small-town life grows increasingly difficult to maintain as danger closes in.
As John navigates romance, friendship, and the challenge of keeping his true identity secret, he faces choices between safety and connection. The story combines elements of science fiction, action, and coming-of-age as John discovers what he's truly capable of.
The narrative explores themes of identity, belonging, and the price of survival in a hostile world. Through John's experiences, the book raises questions about the balance between duty and personal desires, and what it means to find one's place while living in constant danger.
