📖 Overview
In ancient Greek mythology, nine gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals every seven years during a hunt called the Agon. During this period, descendants of ancient Greek heroes can kill the gods and claim their divine power and immortality.
Melora "Lore" Perseous left that brutal world behind after her family was murdered. But as the next hunt begins in New York City, two participants seek her help: her childhood friend Castor and the wounded goddess Athena.
Lore must decide whether to remain safely removed from the violence or return to the hunt she once swore to abandon. Her choice will determine not just her own fate, but the future of the gods themselves.
This reimagining of Greek mythology explores themes of power, vengeance, and the cost of holding onto the past versus forging a new path forward. The story raises questions about destiny versus choice, and what truly makes someone worthy of power.

🤔 Interesting facts
🏺 Author Alexandra Bracken drew inspiration for Lore from her childhood fascination with Greek mythology and her undergraduate studies in History and English at the College of William & Mary.
⚔️ The nine Greek houses featured in the book correspond to the original twelve Olympian gods, though three were destroyed before the events of the novel take place.
🏃♀️ The book's unique premise combines elements of The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson series with the ancient Greek tradition of agon—athletic competitions held to honor Zeus.
🗽 The story is set in New York City, which Bracken chose because its modern landscape provides a striking contrast to ancient Greek elements while offering numerous landmarks that could be reimagined as sites of mythological significance.
📚 Though Lore was originally planned as part of a series, Bracken ultimately decided to make it a standalone novel, weaving a complete story arc into a single volume.
