In the Beaumont family, every member develops a unique magical power called a "savvy" on their thirteenth birthday. Mibs Beaumont awaits her upcoming birthday with equal parts anticipation and anxiety, wondering what her special ability will be.
When her father is hospitalized after a car accident, Mibs becomes convinced her soon-to-appear savvy will help save him. She embarks on an unauthorized journey to reach the hospital, joined by her siblings and several unexpected companions.
