Sky in the Deep

📖 Overview

Seventeen-year-old Eelyn is a warrior of the Aska clan, trained to fight their generations-old enemies, the Riki. During battle, she sees her brother who died five years ago fighting alongside the enemy, forcing her to question everything she believes. The story takes place in a Norse-inspired world of warring clans, ancient gods, and harsh winters. Combat, loyalty, and survival shape daily life as the clans prepare for the fighting season that arrives each year. Family bonds and clan identity drive the narrative as Eelyn navigates between duty and truth. The clash between ingrained hatred and new understanding forms the core conflict, while themes of honor and belonging remain central throughout. Religious beliefs, forgiveness, and the cost of war interweave to create a meditation on how enemies become allies. The story examines what happens when life-long certainties are challenged by new realities.
